A glance into the history of Hermes

In 1837, Thierry Hermes set up a Saddlery workshop which became the flagship location: 24 Faubourg Saint-Honore.

Under the name Hermes Freres,  the Haut à Courroies bag and “saddle stitched” leather goods—bags, luggage, sport and driving accessories were introduced.

The Petit Sac à courroie pour dame, created in 1935, is renamed the Kelly after Grace Kelly famously carries it to hide her pregnancy.

When Jane Birkin complained to Hermes president Jean-Louis Dumas in the 1980s, the Birkin bag was created!
